Using masks is so much fun, I thought I'd do another mask tut for you. Any resemblance to someone else's work is unintentional and coincidental. I'm using PSP 9 but I'm sure any version would work, with some minor adjustments.
You are welcome to use the rose graphic I used in my example.
I have no idea who created this delightful mask, but it's a treasure. If this is your creation, please let me know so I can give you the proper credit.
Select your graphic and resize to approximately 650 X 550, size doesn't really matter you just don't want something too big.
Open a transparent image 600 X 600. Open your graphic and copy and paste it as a new layer onto your blank canvas. Rename it appropriately, in this case, rose.
Click on your raster 1 layer and flood fill with a color from your graphic. I used green #2d6a16.
Click on your rose layer, so that it is highlighted. Go to Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load from Mask from Disk.
*NOTE*
If you chose to keep this mask, I suggest you, save it in your Mask folder in PSP, or wherever, you save your PSP files. If you chose not to save this mask, you can open it in PSP and Go to Layers, New Mask Layer, From Image.
You can do this with any mask.
Find from the drop down window, "87awesomeheartmask", use the following settings....
You should now have this....
Okay! Now the fun part!!! Let's give you some different options.
On your layer palette, click on the green layer and X out the eye.
Add a new layer, named red (I used #af0c03....the color red is up to you)
Flood fill this layer, with your red color.
You should have this....
On your layer palette, click on the red layer and X out the eye.
Add a new layer, named white (You can use any color it's up to you)
Flood fill this layer, with your white color.
You should have this....
You can experiment with different colors and different graphics, all day long! After you have decided what you want to use, delete the other layers.
Here's what your layer palette should look like....
Here's what my layer palette looks like after I delete the colors and graphic layers I don't want.
Click on the rose layer, Go to Image, Mirror (this optional)
Go to Image, Resize 75%, be sure Resize ALL layers is NOT checked
With your rose layer still highlighted, use your deform tool to move the rose into position....
You will notice some of the words are cut off, don't worry, we'll fix this!
Add a new raster layer, named black, this layer should be over/on top of the rose layer. With your brush tool, using these settings....
On your black layer brush all the way around to the very edges of the image - like this....
You're done! Here's what you should have...
You can leave it like this or add your own tubes, text and borders, it's up to you!
Hope you enjoyed this tut and learned something fun about using masks.
Any questions, feel free to email me.
Thanks,
Adak
Okay! Now that we have figured out how to change the mask color how about we try a different graphic.
Click on your rose layer, X out the eye.
Copy and paste a new graphic into your image. I used a yellow rose....yours should look something like this....
Thanks to Frankie for all her help and suggestions to make these tuts better.
