Paint Shop Pro can create a variety of effects using the Arithmetic effect, which combines two images to produce a third one that is determined by settings the user selects.
Go to Image and choose Arithmetic from the drop down menu.
Horse Arithmetic
This tut is my own creation, any resemblance to other tuts is purely coincidental and unintentional.
The Arithmetic window is where all the magic happens dependent upon the functions chosen.
I think the most important part in using the Arithmetic function is choosing the graphics you want to combine. You need photos/images that are approximately the same size, otherwise one image will be resized to fit the other. For Example....
See how these birds look like they are squeezed together....
I took the same two photos and reversed their order in Arithmetic....this time my bridge photo was expanded to fit the bird photo.
There are numerous settings and changes you can make with each function, In my experience to date, I have found the following setting to be the most effective for my purposes.  Feel free to try the other functions that are available.
As indicated by the arrow, the order of your graphic input may be interchanged to obtain the effect desired, as previously shown on the 'birds/bridge' graphic.
The final graphic of your combined images is dependent upon the settings as contained below:
Here are the results....
I changed the settings again....
With these results we lost the bridge completely!
Experiment with the various settings.  Once you obtain a desirable effect, save your settings in a safe location on your computer for future reference.
I'm using PSP 9. Here are the photos I used.
I took my two photos....
By using the colored photo of the rearing horse and placing it as Image #1 and mirroring the white galloping horses in the #2 placement, the following results were obtained using the setting identified by the black arrow above.
I added a border of the original colored horse photo and beveled it. You can use this blended image as a background or a wonderful image on its own, add tubes, accents, whatever you like.
I hope you enjoyed this tut, any questions, feel free to email me.
